Escondido Soccer Club has been serving families throughout North San Diego County since 1976, when the North County Youth Soccer Association (NCYSA) was established in the City of Escondido. As one of the area’s first youth soccer organizations, NCYSA introduced thousands of children to the game through its recreational soccer program and quickly became a cornerstone of the local community.
During the late 1970s and early 1980s, youth soccer experienced tremendous growth in Escondido. Weekend matches filled parks, schools, and Kit Carson Park with more than 2,000 recreational players, creating one of the largest youth soccer programs in North County. The club’s success was driven by dedicated volunteers, coaches, and families who helped build a strong soccer culture that continues today.

Growth of the Club
While NCYSA continued to grow its recreational soccer program, the organization expanded into competitive soccer in 1983 with the formation of Escondido Heat Soccer Club. The addition of a competitive program gave players the opportunity to continue their development while competing at a higher level against clubs throughout Southern California.
In 1989, the competitive program adopted the Escondido Earthquakes name, marking the beginning of a new era for competitive soccer within the organization. The Earthquakes competed against top clubs throughout Southern California while maintaining strong ties to the Escondido community and providing local players with opportunities to develop their skills, compete at a high level, and continue their soccer journey.
Formation of FC Heat
In 1996, the Escondido Heat Soccer Club merged with North County Alliance to form FC Heat. The merger created a stronger, more unified competitive structure while preserving the traditions and commitment to player development that both organizations had established.
FC Heat quickly became a respected name throughout San Diego County and beyond, known for developing skilled players and competitive teams.
Formation of Escondido Soccer Club
In 2001, NCYSA officially became Escondido Soccer Club, bringing both recreational and competitive programs together under one identity. This transition created a clearer pathway for player development, allowing families to remain within the same organization as players progressed from recreational to competitive soccer.
Frances Ryan Park became a central hub for games and events, helping establish a true home for the club and its community.
FC Heat Competitive Legacy
For many years, FC Heat represented the highest level of competitive soccer within Escondido Soccer Club. The program focused on technical development, tactical understanding, and preparing players for high school, college, and beyond.
Just as important, FC Heat maintained strong ties to the community, continuing the club’s commitment to accessibility and player development at every level.
SDSC Surf Escondido
In 2023, the competitive program entered a new chapter. FC Heat transitioned into an affiliation with San Diego Soccer Club Surf and is now known as SDSC Surf Escondido.
This affiliation connects players to one of the top soccer organizations in San Diego, providing expanded opportunities, higher levels of competition, and increased exposure for players who want to advance their game.
SDSC Surf Escondido builds on the legacy of Escondido Heat Soccer Club, the Escondido Earthquakes, and FC Heat, continuing more than four decades of competitive soccer in Escondido.
Continuing the Mission
Today, Escondido Soccer Club remains a community-focused nonprofit serving players from across San Diego County. From recreational soccer to competitive pathways through SDSC Surf Escondido, the club provides opportunities for players of all ages and skill levels.
From its beginnings in 1976 to today, the club’s mission has remained the same: to provide a positive environment where players can learn, compete, and grow through the game of soccer.
